Moving Tips
by Gary Duncan
When we talk about moving the hen hoop, we are normally talking about moving it only one length or so forward. There is some common sense involved here. If you have a slope, then plan to move it down hill. If you want to move it several hundred yards, you will want to use an ATV or lawn tractor. With the large units you may need a small tractor. This all will depend on the ground cover, such as smoothness or presence of tall forage. In a mowed yard they move easily, but in a rough pasture or tall weeds, they definitely have more friction.
How often do the coops need moved? Chickens love a new patch of grass or garden and would be quite pleased to be moved every day. The more often they are moved, the happier the hens are, but when to move the coop is an individual decision. While moving the coop, we do recommend keeping the chickens in the enclosed hen house to prevent squishing your birds.
